Hay fever, from October to March, has been a part of my life since 1954!
Anything I do for myself is a bonus. Everything I do for other people is a miracle!
Enjoy my assistance while you can!  You're not supposed to be getting it.

VERY IMPORTANT -
I no longer want to receive second-hand items that people do not want!
That part of my life is now over. I am no longer a prolific equipment designer
or model-maker for the general community now!  I am retired!

This site is for family and friends to look at for pleasure. It has a variety of subjects, which everyone in the community will find something of interest.

Volunteer, Education and Recreation History -

1962 - In Grade 5, I was introduced (by my all-time favourite teacher) to science, which has been my first love ever since!  A student also brought in a battery, lamp and a piece of wire - and something exploded in my head!  I began an electrical apprenticeship 7 years later when an employer took me away from high school just before the last high school term ended in 1968.

1964 - I began model-making, which has also been a favourite activity. Check these out!Outback Dunnies are very popular, and have been publicly displayed in 1992 and 2001. I have started a model of a market, but won't finish it for years to come!

1970 (early) - Basic electronics took over my life for several years. After watching people with disabilities with great interest in primary school in 1963, it wasn't until 1987 that I found a way to become involved. I just didn't have the skills when I was a child.

1977 (March) onwards - (MCCT) Mini Car Club of Tasmania (for recreational driving) to show all road users how to handle vehicles safely under adverse conditions.

1978 (mid) to 1987 (late) - (CREST) Citizens Radio Emergency Services Teams (using CB radio) to provide emergency radio communication for St. John Ambulance where crowds of people still gather at shows and regattas, statewide bushfires, festivals, sports clubs etc. In the 1982 bushfires, I slept in and worked near my car over a three-day period alongside police, fire, SES and ambulance.

1987 (Christmas Day) to 1991 (September) - (CMAC) Custom-Made Appliance Controllers (for industrial design) creating special equipment for people with disabilities, their carers, families, friends and teachers - for up to 15 hours a day. Dozens of clients included the Department of Education, Rehabilitation Tasmania, Royal Hobart Hospital, Rheumatism and Arthritis Foundation Tasmania, Headway Tasmania, Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, Willow Court, government schools etc. I also attended local meetings by the Federal Government for the purpose of improving the lefestyles of people with disabilities.

1990s (I think) - I put in a submission (just one of many other contributions) about the dangers of unregulated fireworks - and the damage that had been done since the 1960s!  The result was that families and groups could still hold events, but not have hundreds of children throughout Australia continue to flood the emergency departments of hospitals!  I was nearly one of them - as a victim!

1994 (January) to 2014 (May) - CSIRO's Double Helix Club and the Department of Education, where I shared the same science in my primary and high school days in the mid-to-late 1960s.

2001 - (TAFE) for a Land Rehabilitation and Restoration Certificate II course to become an environmental scientist, privately or professionally.

2001 to date - (TNPA) Tasmanian National Parks Association (tourism) striving to maintain our parks for locals and tourists to enjoy flora and fauna in the wild. Also (SRB) Save Ralphs Bay Inc. (until recently) to respect the values of international lovers of coastal and inter-tidal flora and fauna.

2015 - I'm very busy at the moment, saving Tasmania from destruction  -  see  For RayFrack Free Tas Membership.

Because of about years of enthusiasm in science, electrical and mechanical, I am or have been -

- well-known throughout the greater community, from the Premier's Department
and many other government departments to charities and hundreds of children in
schools, their families, friends and teachers.
- an experienced, but unqualified industrial designer.
- involved in environmental education throughout the community since 1994 (or before).
- mostly self-taught to university level, and - as far as I know, have acquired scientific
knowledge from a wider variety of fields than most specifically-trained scientists.
- a designer of special equipment for people with disabilities, holding my own
displays privately and in expos, but that is now a past activity. (I have no working car).
- a writer with club magazine editor and secretarial skills, and lots of contributions to
many printed and electronic media. - self-taught in basic computer programming.

A little or a lot - mostly for myself, but occasionally for other individuals, employment, clubs, organisations and government departments on a volunteer basis. I know I've missed something, - just use your imagination, but don't include 'astronaut'!  My first try on a space shuttle simulator ended in the shape of half of 'the golden arches' just down the road!

(See also Ray's creative past!Innovations.)
At 21 May, 2014 - 19 of the 20 years as a member of what was CSIRO's Double Helix Club was spent as a volunteer educator!  Having been involved in Source Community Wholefoods for a few years, I will continue to believe that this organisation is the future of food production, just as it was in the past - before the Government controlled the present food industry!
